Phil : Suarez is Like Kenny and Keegan

Phil Thompson believes Luis Suarez has all the attributes to be a huge success at Anfield - and likens the No.7’s qualities to a hybrid of Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan.

The Reds legend feels the Uruguayan's arrival was overshadowed by the drama of transfer deadline day but reckons there are already signs that the former Ajax man can be a Barclays Premier League star.

Thompson said: "Everybody's gone on about Andy Carroll and his £35 million transfer fee but Suarez has come in under the radar. He excites me and he's a player between Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan, that bundle of enthusiasm, I think the fans have really warmed to him. Hopefully he can do it for Liverpool, it is early days at the moment though."

Liverpool face Sparta Prague in the Europa League tonight in what is Kenny Dalglish's first European match in charge of the club.

Thompson is confident they can come away from the Czech Republic's capital with a positive result and is keen to see Joe Cole stake a claim for a regular starting berth.

He added: "This is Kenny Dalglish's first European game as manager which is quite interesting so he'll want to do well. There are a few players who are in that squad going over there, particularly Joe Cole who I met the other day and was full of positive vibes,

"If there's anybody who's suffered since the start of the season then it's Joe, he's been really disappointed about the injuries that he's had. He was saying that he can't wait to get back playing and being played in his rightful position."
