Phil : Suarez is Like Kenny and Keegan

Phil Thompson believes Luis Suarez has all the attributes to be a huge success at Anfield - and likens the No.7’s qualities to a hybrid of Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan.

The Reds legend feels the Uruguayan's arrival was overshadowed by the drama of transfer deadline day but reckons there are already signs that the former Ajax man can be a Barclays Premier League star.

Match Preview : Liverpool vs Wigan Athletic

Liverpool
Steven Gerrard looks set to start for the hosts after missing out for England in midweek with a groin injury, leaving Kenny Dalglish with an almost full squad to choose from for the visit of the Latics.

However, Jonjo Shelvey will miss out after suffering a knee injury and £35 million signing Andy Carroll is also sidelined with a thigh problem as he and the Reds fans await his much anticipated debut.

Suarez set to face Wigan on Saturday

With more than two weeks between Premier League matches following the match at Anfield this Sunday, Luis Suarez’s ineligibility to play in the Europa League would seem to ensure a start for Liverpool this weekend. A few other factors would also seem to point in the Uruguayan’s favor.

Dirk Kuyt having played 75 minutes for the Netherlands midweek after a fairly heroic performance in terms of working for the team at Stamford Bridge would leave me very surprised to find him up front leading the line alone again against a side like Wigan. Whether Dirk really can run forever may be tested should he start again, but perhaps a partner up front will help shoulder the load. Wigan are tied for bottom in headed goals this year with two, so with a bit less of a need for the extra defender we may see LFC go with two up front or a more pronounced second striker role for Suarez.

Agger hates Torres that much!!!

Yo guys, have you seen this?? If you hadn't noticed on that match that Torres was elbowed by Agger. You see it once more time or many times..hahaha. Not that I'm glad that he do that to Torres but just it so funny to see the act..;-p

David Villa : Duo worth every penny

I can't tell anything, but David Villa reveals that one of his option club when under Rafa Benitez is spending wisely for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll. Here is what the report says:

The Barcelona forward is convinced the additions of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez was money well spent by boss Kenny Dalglish and reckon the duo will strike up an instant rapport with supporters.

'Each year there are big transfers of this type. It's normal," said Villa.

"All teams need to strengthen when they want to win things."

The striker continued: 'Liverpool needed to reinforce after the sale of Fernando (Torres). They (Carroll and fellow new recruit Luis Suarez) are two great players who are worth every penny. I'm sure they'll be a hit with the fans."

Daglish : Team Power is More Important than Individual

Looks like Daglish knows that the power of a team is more important than an individual's capability.

A feeling of regret may just have been being to bite at Fernando Torres as he returned to his new London home on Sunday evening. Whilst the vociferous away following in the corner of the Shed End had done their best to leave him in little doubt over who was the bigger club. The Liverpool players had put in their best efforts to prove that the gap between the two clubs on the pitch, which the Spaniard had hinted at, may not be quite so clear cut.

Poyet : Suarez has what it takes

Gus Poyet, a Uruguayan legend who starred for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur during a seven-year stint in England's top flight, is a huge fan of Suarez and is confident his compatriot has what it takes to be a success at Anfield.

"I'm sure that he will enjoy football in England and that he'll do very, very well," he said.

"Of course if you compare the two leagues (England and Holland) it's totally different.

"But what I do believe and I always say from knowing first hand is if you get a Uruguayan player in your team, because of our mentality, you will always, always get something from him."

Agger: Suarez strike first of many

Suarez took just 16 minutes to find the back of the net after coming on as a second-half substitute against the Potters.

Agger feels it was important for the Reds' new No.7 to break his scoring duck so quickly - and he's backing the 24-year-old to provide Kenny Dalglish's men with plenty more over the next five-and-a-half years.

"We need to have a few more games, but I think it's important for him and the team to get the goal so quick," said Agger.

"For strikers it's always important to get a goal, and in the first game it's definitely important.

"I've not seen Suarez in training yet, but I'm sure he can give Liverpool plenty of goals. That's what we need.

"Different players have different styles. It's always the best option to have two different strikers to give options for the team, so that's good.

"I'm pleased for the team as well as him (Suarez) as we needed that goal, it made everyone relax the last 10-20 minutes.

Suarez: Dalglish is a legend

The Uruguayan World Cup star became Liverpool's record signing for a short time on Monday before the club completed the capture of Andy Carroll.

The former Ajax striker even revealed how his new manager spoke to him in Spanish when they met each other.

"He [Dalglish] is a person who you respect after only a few minutes of conversation," Suarez told LFC Weekly in his first exclusive interview with the written media since arriving at Anfield.

"He tried to speak to me in Spanish - 'hola, bienvenido' (hello and welcome) - the basics and that impressed me. Obviously, he is a legend at this club...in this city, but I think it's very important to judge people as you see them rather than just what you hear. He has lived up to that legend in my eyes.

"I could see quickly that Dalglish is a manager and a person who I can relate to and he is very determined to make the team play with a certain image - the kind of attractive football that I want to be a part of.

"He was very keen to bring me here and if there is one person that was influential in my signing it was him. He is very ambitious about the club and is confident he can lead the club back to the top. Now I am here, I do not want to disappoint him in any way."

Luis Suarez reflects on 'dream' debut

Luis Suarez has reminisced about what he described as "dream debut" for Liverpool.

The Uruguayan made Anfield bow, following a £22.8million move from Ajax, as a second half substitute for Fabio Aurelio in the 2-0 win over Stoke and made his mark by netting in front of the Kop just eleven minutes from time.

Although Potters defender Andy Wilkinson may be attributed the effort as an own goal, the Uruguayan maintains that it was his strike as part of a memorable night for his new club.

"I think it is a dream debut. Anyone would say it is a dream debut," admitted Suarez.

"Just to be on the field for a few minutes and to manage to score in front of the Kop, it's what dreams are made of.

"I certainly celebrated the goal as if it's mine! Hopefully it's mine and whoever decides will decide in my favour.

"The first target for me is to help the team, whether it's scoring goals or just helping out in general play, because what counts is the team, not individuals."

Dalglish delight at Suarez bow

Suarez required just 16 minutes after entering the action as a second-half substitute to find the back of the net on his Reds bow and add to Raul Meireles's opener.
Afterwards, Dalglish revealed the 24-year-old has yet to train with his new teammates as Liverpool awaited the completion of paperwork to rubber stamp his transfer from Ajax on Monday.
But with a goal already under his belt, the boss believes Suarez will go from strength to strength as he settles into Anfield life.
"Luis hasn't even had the opportunity to train with us," Dalglish told reporters in his post-match press conference.
